A Historic Gem in Downtown Portland

Today, the 209 Building continues to inspire and fascinate, not only as a functional space for businesses and creatives, but also as a living museum of architectural and urban history in Portland. The 1912 building was designed by a Portland architectural firm called Emil Schacht and Son, and was constructed specifically for the new Portland Police Headquarters, where the bureau was housed until 1984. With the eventual relocation of the Portland Police after several decades, a new ownership group extensively renovated the interior and converted it to offices. The building’s woodwork and finishes echo with the stories of those who have passed through its doors, making it a cherished landmark in Portland’s downtown skyline. As we look to the future, the building stands ready to welcome new stories, adding layers to its historical tapestry. The building is still famously listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
